The record
Landeskirchliches Archiv der Evang.-luth. Landeskirche Hannovers, Kirchenkreis Bodenwerder, Linse, Kirchenbuch 1854-1875, Bild 35 (archion.de).
Year: 1858, established from the leaf. The downloaded image is a single row carrying the printed column headings and no year heading; the year was read separately from the register. It is consistent with the entry’s own evidence: the bride’s father is described as weiland, already dead, and he died in December 1855.

What this entry establishes
- A daughter of Georg Ludewig Wesemann and Justine Marie Küster the project does not carry: Christiana Friederike Minna, called Luise, born 28 February 1823. She is George’s aunt. Grading: stated.
- She is a strong candidate for the Luise Waßemann of the open question. Bild 26 of the 1815–1853 volume enters a Luise Waßemann, Maschinenmüllers Tochter at Linse as godmother in 1838, when this woman was fifteen. The register’s own genannt Luise tells you which of her three forenames she used. This does not close the 1817–1848 question by itself, but it supplies a named person to test it against.
- Her father is weiland. Georg Ludewig died 29 December 1855, and this entry of 1858 independently confirms the death without naming its date.
- The marriage falls sixteen months before George emigrated. His aunt married on 21 October 1858; his own dispensation was filed on 24 January 1860 and he sailed on 12 March. The household at Linse was still functioning and still marrying out of the parish in the year before he left.
- Her mother’s forenames are given as Marie Justine. The register now stands at Justine Marie in 1803 and 1861, against Marie Justine in 1832 and here, and Anna Marie in 1846. The baseline of Justine Marie holds on the earliest and latest witnesses, but the ordered variant is now attested twice and the footnote should say so.
- The father’s title reads Maßmüller again. The same short word appears in the 1861 death entry of Heinrich Wilhelm, where it was flagged as not having the length of Maschinenmüller. Two independent instances in the same hand-tradition strengthen the reading. The word should still go to a paleographer, but it is now a pattern rather than a one-off.
- Three parishes published the banns. Norden on the North Sea coast, Hameln, and Halle. The couple were living apart from the parish of marriage and from each other, and the remarks column explains why: the groom had been in service at Hameln for years and was by then a police constable at Norden.
Notes
- This entry sets the standard against which a negative can be read. It records a Wesemann marriage in full: both parties named, both sets of parents, birth dates, banns in all three parishes concerned, and a remark explaining the irregularity. A marriage of this family does not go unrecorded or thinly recorded in this register.
- That negative has now been established. The 1860 dispensation file refers four times to Wesemann und Frau. No Wesemann marriage appears in the Linse register, and none appears at Halle between 1856 and 1860. Both of this family’s documented marriages — 1832 and this one — were solemnised at Halle and entered in the Linse book, so the Linse register is precisely where such an entry would land. The absence is therefore evidence rather than a gap in coverage, and it favours reading und Frau as the Holzminden clerk’s standing form for a household petition rather than as a statement about a wife. Two readings remain open: that George married in a bride’s home parish outside both books, or that the phrase is boilerplate. Nothing yet supports the first.
- Reading confidence. The two surnames, both sets of parents, the two birth dates, the occupations, the three banns parishes and the marriage date and place are all read with confidence. Two items are not: the final word of the remarks column, read as Aufgebot; and the faint pencil annotation in the lower right of the remarks column, which is not legible at this resolution and appears to be a later cross-reference to another page.

*Note: this entry was on file from prior work and was omitted from the original draft's "Summary of Matches" despite naming a Waßemann bride and a Waßemann father directly. Her father, Georg Ludwig Waßemann, is the same man as the deceased in the Bild 46 burial entry below — this 1858 marriage record independently confirms his death (he is styled weiland, "the late") without giving its date. Her mother's name here, Marie Justine Küster, matches the mother named in the Bild 48 burial entry.
