The record
Document: Two pages. Page 1: left-hand page 161 of the 1843 marriage register of the Evangelische Kirche Vaihingen an der Enz (German Kurrent script, photocopy). Page 2: Ancestry.com index printout for the same marriage, with a caption added by the compiler of the family booklet.
Language: German (page 1); English (page 2)
Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

[Caption added by the booklet compiler, italic:] German Lutheran marriage records contain the names of both the bride and groom’s parents. They also contain the dates of birth for both the bride and groom. This made it very easy to determine lineages for Fredericka Bauer Wesemann and Caroline Weiss Knoll. Above is an example of an online transcription from ancestry.com. Original records are extremely difficult to read. because they are written in German Cursive from that time period and many are illegible due to age and poor copy methods.
Transcriber’s notes
Page 1 is only the left half of the register opening. The marriage dates, and the entry numbers for the first two couples, are on the facing page or cut off in the photocopy; the index supplies 29 October 1843.
Abbreviations: B. = Bürger (citizen); ux. = uxor (wife); n. = nata (née); Mg. = Maria or Margaretha, uncertain here; Mr. = Meister; a/d. Enz = an der Enz; ev. Rel. = evangelischer Religion. “Würthin” is the feminine form of the surname Würth.
Place conflict: the register entries place both families in Vaihingen an der Enz, and the page is headed as a Vaihingen register in the booklet; the Ancestry index gives the marriage place and custodian as Enzweihingen. Enzweihingen was a separate parish in Oberamt Vaihingen. Which register this page belongs to should be confirmed from the film or Archion image.
Readings of trades are uncertain throughout; the Küfer/Küfermeister reading for Michael and Jacob Friedrich Bauer should be checked, especially since the 1860 and 1880 U.S. censuses call Frederick Bauer a brush maker and brush dealer.
Entry 13 (Christoph Samuel Knoll) is recorded because the surname matches the Knoll line; nothing on this page connects him to the Marktleuthen Knolls.
Bride’s mother: the register reads Bächele; the booklet’s family group sheet gives Friederike Buchele. Same name, variant spelling.
