The record

Document: One page: Record of a Death in Philadelphia (physician’s and undertaker’s certificate) for an infant, George Willford Wesemann.

Language: English

Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

Transcriber’s notes

This is the son of George Washington Wesemann and his first wife, Elizabeth Crosby (married 1901; she died 1906). Elizabeth is named as mother; the certificate does not say whether she was then living.

“Diptheria” is spelled as written. The street at 2931 was re-checked at zoom (2026-09-27): a script capital 'H' (H St.) in both entries.

Grade: PRIMARY for the death; the parents’ information is informant-supplied.
