"Nicholas Boenthen, 29, M, Britannia ware Maker [read; possibly 'Brittannia Ware Maker'], personal estate 50 [?], born Prussia. Louisa, 20, F, Wurtemberg." No children in the household.

"Boentgen Nicholas, W M 47, Mettal Turner, born Prussia, father Prussia, mother Prussia. — Louisa, W F 40, wife, keeping house, born Wurtemberg, father Wurtemberg, mother Wurtemberg. — William, W M 14, son, Office Boy, born Pennsylvania, father Prussia, mother Wurtemberg. — Annie, W F 11, daughter, at school, Pennsylvania, father Prussia, mother Wurtemberg. — Catharine, W F 9, daughter, at school, Pennsylvania, father Prussia, mother Wurtemberg." (The FS index gives Nicholas's birthplace as "Germany"; the image reads Prussia.)

Plain reading

Nicholas, a Britannia-ware maker in 1860 (a metal turner in 1880; an iron-foundry worker in 1870, PW5.11), born Prussia, with Louisa, born Württemberg, who is 20 in 1860, 30 in 1870 and 40 in 1880; children William (14 in 1880, "office boy"), Annie (11) and Catharine (9).

Notes

PROBABLE that William (4 in 1870, 14 in 1880) and Anna/Annie (1, 11) are William A. and Anna M. Boentgen of F19 and Chapter 4 (names and ages agree across 1870 and 1880; no document names Nicholas as father of William A.). Catharine, born about 1871, is new to Chapter 4. Louisa's origin (Württemberg) and Nicholas's (Prussia) are STATED.

Conflicts noted: none with the working files. F65 (POSSIBLE) can be restated from these three censuses. The index's "Germany" for the 1880 birthplace is overruled by the image (Prussia).
