Uncertain readings are marked [?] or set in brackets; words that could not be read are marked as such. Each transcript is shown as written, with its transcriber’s notes.

The record

Document: Two pages. Page 1: an opening of the 1844 baptism register of the Evangelische Kirche Vaihingen an der Enz (entries 31–35; degraded photocopy of German Kurrent script), captioned by the booklet compiler. Page 2: Ancestry.com index printout for entry 35.

Language: German (page 1); English (page 2)

Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

Transcriber’s notes

Entry 35 is the only entry transcribed. Its readings agree with the index on every point the index covers (names, parents, 23 May birth, 26 May baptism, Vaihingen, page 61).

The register gives the child’s names in the forms Marie/Friderike/Karoline; the index normalises to Maria Friederike Karolina. She is the Fredericka Bauer who married George Wesemann in 1866.

The father’s trade is illegible in this copy; see the note on the 1843 marriage.

The godparents cannot be read from this photocopy. A fresh image from Archion (Vaihingen an der Enz, Taufen 1844) is the route to them.
