Transcript and translation

Uncertain readings are marked [?] or set in brackets; words that could not be read are marked as such. Each transcript is shown as written, with its transcriber’s notes.

The record

Transcript carried from the Chapter 2 entries list (Wesemann_Origins_Ch2_Entries, now archived). Readings are as recorded there; not re-read on the image for this file.

Transcription (original language)

Draft, 6 October 2026: a baptism of a daughter; father "Johann Henrich," the surname written over and not legible at full zoom. The child's name and the godparents were not transcribed in this pass.

Translation (English)

Unresolved: the surname cannot be read, so the entry can be neither assigned to a Wesemann nor excluded. A daughter is not the miller. If the father were a Wesemann he would be a possible kinsman at Katlenburg, where the horse doctor Johann Heinrich Wesemann was held in 1754 (Appendix C), but nothing in the entry shows that. Low priority: only another entry for the same family could settle it.

Notes

Addendum Part 1 and Part 2, done log, 6 October (now F16). Reopen Bild 58 only to record the child's name and the godparents if the Katlenburg line gains weight.

Re-read 20 October 2026 (O15.1; Bild 58, viewer value 57, at two and three clicks; the maximum gives only blur): "19. Apr. Johann Henrich [surname struck through and overwritten] Töchterl. geb[oren] …"; Gevattern: "Andr[eas] Küd[d]en[t]ig[…] [jun.?]; Rel. Dorothea [..]ihr[..]; Johann Lau[?]nen"; "Nomen: Anna Elisa[beth?] [Coll?]" (a struck grid and "NB" in the margin); later pencil note: "∞ 10.6.1760", "† 31.5.1818". English: on 19 April 1738 a daughter of Johann Henrich [surname struck] was born [and baptized]; godparents Andreas [K…], Dorothea [..] (a widow), Johann Lau[…]; named Anna Elisabeth [?]; a later hand adds her marriage on 10 June 1760 and her death on 31 May 1818. The date and the Bild (displayed) are confirmed; the surname is still not legible.
