Plain reading

On 2 April 1930 William Branchide (56), a steel-mill laborer, rented 200 Erie Avenue, Philadelphia (Ward 33), for \$90 a month. With him were his wife Harriet (50, born England, immigrated 1900), a 22-year-old son "B. William", their daughter Pearl (9), and three boarders: Thelma (17), Winifred (16) and Gladys (15) Davis, the three Davis daughters of Harriet's first marriage, here listed as boarders rather than stepchildren. The enumerator wrote the three girls' mother's birthplace as Ohio.

Notes

PROBABLE that the girls are Harriet's children (three Davis girls in her household, ages and given names fit; the relationship is not stated on the sheet).

Pearl's mother is entered England and "B. William's" mother England. The Ohio entry looks like an enumerator error for boarders or an answer from the girls themselves; it is carried as a query. (3) The relation of the three girls to the head is "Boarder" on the sheet; the book's text calls them Harriet's children and the Branchide stepchildren (Chapter 9). Both stand until read against another record. (4) Line 3, "B. William": age "22" born about 1908, mother England. William J. Branchide's known children with Lucinda Myers (Verda, b. 1913; Clifford H., marriage 1924) do not include a William B.; the entry may be a son by Lucy (mother entered England in error), or a given-name abbreviation. Not resolved.
