Sheet heading: "12th Ward 35th District ... enumerated by me on the 19th day of November 1870", John J. Kirk? [signature], Assistant Marshal, page "35" (stamped "629"). Columns 7 to 10 (occupation, value of real estate, place of birth) are blank on this page.

Other index row: "Charles Knoll", born 1833 Bavaria, Philadelphia Ward 6, page 232, line 19, in the household of Alois Heck, born Baden, age 60 (ark 1:1:MZP3-GQ4); age 37; no household role read.

Adam: "Adam Knoll", born 1843 Pennsylvania, Jefferson Township, Berks (MZLV-QHT); "Adam Knolte", born 1841 Hesse-Cassel, Greenfield, Milwaukee (MN9R-V8Y); "Adam Noll", born 1842 Baden, Green Township, Hamilton, Ohio (M6VK-FJ9); none in Philadelphia born in Bavaria.

Plain reading

A Charles Knoll of 37 with a wife Sophia, 28, and sons Charles, 3, and Max, 1, lived in Ward 12 in the November 1870 re-enumeration. Johann Karl Knoll, born 13 May 1833, would have been 37 years 6 months old; Maria Sophie Geist, whom he married on 2 August 1866, could be Sophia; a son Charles aged 3 would have been born about 1867, after the marriage. The page gives no birthplace, so Bavaria rests on the second Charles Knoll row in Ward 6, which lists an age-37 Bavarian under the household of Alois Heck (relation not read) and may be the same man (counted twice: June and November) or another. No Adam Knoll of the right age and birth appears in Philadelphia in 1870.

Notes

POSSIBLE that the Ward 6 row is the same man. Nothing found for Adam.

Conflicts noted: The index line number for Charles (26) against the image (25); trivial. No conflict with the half-brother ages: Charles 37 fits 13 May 1833; Adam's age is unknown.
