Translation (English)

10\. Linse, on 14 February […] at 5 in the afternoon, died the little son of Jo. Christoph Brandes [Brand?], [word not read], Johann Christoph, on the tenth day of the measles, and was buried on the […] of the same month, aged […].

Notes

The draft reads the father's surname Brandes. Brand and Brandes are separate surnames at Halle; read the ending on the image.

If Brand, the child is one of the two Johann Christophs of Christoph Brand and Anne Catharina Voges, born 20 May 1767 or 27 November 1775.

Grade: Stated (draft reading); possible for the Brand-Voges family.

Conventions

[ ] editorial addition or expansion; [?] uncertain reading; [...] or […] illegible or outside the crop; [sic] as written. Spelling, capitals and abbreviations follow the register. Draft reading, not yet checked against the image by a second person unless noted.

Translation (English)

Linse, 14 February, 5 in the evening, died Jo. Christoph Brandes's little son Johann Christoph, on the tenth day of the measles, buried the [..] of the same month, aged 1[?] year.

Notes

Left page (1777 burials), entry 10. The surname is written Brandes. The age, about 1 to 1½ years, makes the child the Johann Christoph born 27 November 1775 (baptism with a cross), not the child of 1767 (who would be about 9). Brandes is the clerk's form for this family elsewhere (Caroline Wecke née Brandes, F130). Grade: STATED for the entry; the identification with the Brand-Voges child of 1775 PROBABLE.
