Baptism. Wasmann role: godfather, with his wife.

German

d\. 28 Aug. Hanß Jacob Si|vers(?) zu Dohrsen [Dohnsen] einen Sohn. Gevatt. sind: Hanß Herman Wasman u. uxor; Hinrich Sagebiel(?); beyde von Dohrsen; und Hanß Schrader von Reiße(?). Nomen: Hanß Herman.

English

On 28 August, to Hanß Jacob Sievers(?) of Dohnsen, a son. Godparents: Hanß Herman Wasman and his wife; Hinrich Sagebiel(?); both of Dohnsen; and Hanß Schrader of Reiße(?). Name: Hanß Herman.

Notes

> The child takes the godfather’s full double forename, Hanß Herman. That is the clerk’s own signal that this godfather is the principal sponsor. > > The clerk writes the village as Doer=/Dohr-sen here and in most Kurrent entries in this volume. The 1734 marriage on Bild 187, written in a Latin hand, spells it Dohnsen plainly. Treated throughout as one place; the equivalence is an inference, not a stated reading. > > Hanß Herman Wasman and the Herman Wasman of Bild 5 may be the same man under a fuller form of the name.
