Heading: "Mrs. Proude Surprised."
"A surprise party was given to Mrs. Proude, wife of Rev. J. Proude, pastor of the Primitive Methodist church, at her residence on West Oak street, last evening, by a number of young people of the church and their friends. The visitors received a cordial welcome and after enjoying themselves for a while they made the object of the visit known through Mr. John T. Lawson, who presented Mrs. Proude with a beautiful silver pepper and salt set as a token of esteem in which the lady is held as a companion and christian worker. Rev. Proude accepted the gift in behalf of his wife, after which refreshments were served. Among those present were Misses Mary Kimmel, Jennie Powell, Sarah James, Hattie Marshal, Maud Parrish, Ada Groncott, Emma and Hattie Morris, Annie and Lottie Beach, Mary Nicholas, Mr. and Mrs. William Beach, Harry Parker, Charles Parrish, Benjamin Marshall, Seth Jones, John Short, Lewis Hopkins, Jr., William Broughall, William Jones and William Butler."
