The record
Transcription of: 1863_Septennial_Census_Pennsylvania_John_E_Knoll.pdf
Document: Photocopy of a handwritten Pennsylvania septennial census (taxables) list, alphabetical 'K' surnames with columns NAME, SURNAME, OCCUPATION and several narrow tally columns; a vertical caption 'Pennsylvania Septennial Census 1779-1863' is printed on the right margin. No county, ward or page information visible on the copy.
Conventions: original spelling kept; [?] = uncertain reading; [illegible] = unreadable; bracketed italic text describes images or marks the transcriber's notes.

| [Caption, right margin, printed vertically] | Pennsylvania Septennial Census 1779-1863 |
| NAME. | SURNAME. | OCCUPATION. | Tally columns (headings illegible) |
| Knoll | John | victualler | 1 [tick in an early tally column]; 1 [tick in a later tally column] |
| Knoll | Charles | victualler | 1 [tick in an early tally column]; 1 [tick in a later tally column] |
Transcriber note: the columns printed 'NAME.' and 'SURNAME.' actually contain surname and given name respectively, as written. The narrow printed column headings to the right of OCCUPATION are too small/degraded to read; both Knoll entries have the same pattern of tally marks as most other entries on the page.
Other entries on this page not transcribed.
Transcriber's Notes
Both Knoll entries are clear: 'Knoll John victualler' and 'Knoll Charles victualler' (consecutive lines, about two-thirds down the page).
No year, county, ward or page header is visible on this copy other than the margin caption; the tally column headings are illegible.
The first capital of the John entry's surname is written with a slightly different loop than the Charles entry, but both read 'Knoll'.
