Transcriber's Notes
Handwritten blue-ink note at top right read as 'Ration Books Issued', then 'ET 5-14-45' and '2651-7'. The 'ET' (could be 'GT') and the final digit of '2651-7' are uncertain.
The handwritten certificate-of-eligibility number on the pink overprint reads six digits, 144232, with the last digit overwritten. Chapter 4 and Appendix F give this certificate's number as 1442302, read directly from the certificate itself (Certificate of Eligibility, Elmer F. Wesemann, 22 December 1947); the missing seventh digit here is likely lost in the overwriting.
Place of birth is typed 'Onley, Pa' as shown (spelled exactly as typed).
Travel pay '2.70' and total amount '183.21' are handwritten; all other entries are typed.
Part of the pink VA overprint text is faint and partly covered by the typed entry in item 40. The wording was completed from the standard stamp text where it was partly legible ('guaranty or insurance', 'Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, as amended').
The red WWII compensation stamp partly covers the words 'AW 107. Amer' and 'theatre' in Remarks.
