The record

Language: English

Transcription conventions: on printed forms, pre-printed text is set in roman and handwritten entries in \italic\; wholly handwritten registers and lists are set in roman. Square brackets mark editorial matter: [?] follows an uncertain reading, [illegible] marks unread text, [blank] marks an unfilled field, and bracketed descriptions record stamps, marks, and annotations. Spelling, abbreviation, and capitalisation follow the original; nothing is corrected. On census and register pages that carry many unrelated entries, the page heading and the target household or entry are transcribed in full; the extent of what is and is not transcribed is stated on each page.

Transcriber’s notes

“M2” for George marks a second marriage (his first wife, Elizabeth Crosby, died 1906); Mary is “M1”. Three years married fits the 10 September 1907 marriage.

George is a bakery proprietor and employer in 1910, between his hat-finishing work in 1900 and 1918–1930.

Mary’s father is given as born in Germany; in 1920 her father is born in Pennsylvania (Charles Knoll was Pennsylvania-born). The 1910 entry is the outlier.

The enumerator’s name re-checked at zoom 2026-09-27: Harry J. Gebhart.

Grade: PRIMARY.
