Transcriber’s notes

Fredericka’s birth is given as May 1843; her baptism (23 May 1844) and 1907 death certificate (23 May 1844) agree on 1844. Treat 1843 as an informant error.

Immigration year 1863 (37 years in the U.S.) is contradicted by the 1860 census, which shows Fredericka, age 16, in her father’s Philadelphia household. The census figure is unreliable here.

“Married 37 years” fits a marriage c. 1863, not the documented 29 July 1866. The same census year is being used as a reference point for both answers, which suggests the informant was reckoning loosely.

Five children born, four living matches the family record: William, Emma, Sophia, and George Washington are the four surviving children named in the 1880 census. The fifth is Mathilda G. Wesemann, born 2 April 1873, who died in infancy on 11 July 1873 and is buried in her grandparents' plot at German Lutheran Cemetery (Chapter 4).

The house number re-checked at zoom 2026-09-27: 2304 (the next house, line 12, is 2306); her 1907 death certificate gives 2304 E. Firth St., and the family owned the house free of mortgage.
