Burial, 6 September 1814 (found dead 3 September), Bodenwerder

English

24\. Wilhelm Brand, burgher and master tanner of this place [...] was found dead on the evening of 3 September in the "Leine" at the ford. The injuries on the body seemed to show that he had fallen from the high bank there. He was buried quietly on 6 September and was 32 years old.

Notes

Born about 1782. Bodenwerder lies on the Weser, so "Leine" is either a misreading or a local name; check on the image. Probably Caroline Louise's first husband (married at Halle 1807 as "Leibzüchter Friedrich Wilhelm Brand in Linse"): the identification is probable, not proved. No widow named.

Lohgerbermeister alhier [margin: Brand] [Bild 241, under the running head "Gestorbene im Jahre 1814":] [wurde] am 3ten Sept. gegen Abend in der [Leine] bey der Furth todt gefunden. Translation (English)

Wilhelm Brand, burgher and master tanner here, [was] found dead toward evening on 3 September in the [Leine] by the ford. The injuries on the body appear to prove that he fell from the high bank there. He was buried quietly on 6 September and was 32 years old.

Notes

Read in full. The river word has five letters, an L-form first letter and ends in -une/-ine; it is not Weser (no W, no -ser). No lines stand between the heading and the continuation: the entry breaks at the page turn. Next entry: 25. Christine Hallemann, geb. Düen. Grade: STATED except the first word of the continuation and the river (POSSIBLE).

Translation (English)

[He was] found dead toward evening on 3 September in the Lenne at the ford. The injuries on the body appear to prove that he fell from the high bank there. He was buried quietly on 6 September, aged 32.

Notes

The river word reads L-e-n-n-e: two minims and no i-dot. The Lenne runs from Linse to the Weser at Bodenwerder. Grade: STATED.
