English translation: 7. Father: Friederich Wilhelm Conrad Waßmann (underlined in the original), cottager (Brinksitzer) and linen-weaver at Kemnade. Mother: Hanne Dorothea Heinriette Wilhelmine, née Ritter, twenty-seven years old. Birth: the eighteenth of March, [one(?)] o’clock midday. Baptism: the twenty-third of March. Child: (son) Heinrich Wilhelm Ludewig. Godparents: 1) the linen-weaver(?) and retired smallholder (Leibzüchter) Christoph Waßmann, the child’s grandfather; 2) Wilhelmine, née [name unread], widow of the late [trade unread] Ritter of Kemnade, the child’s grandmother; both resident at Kemnade.
> Note: both godparents are entered explicitly as the child’s grandparents — the paternal grandfather Christoph Waßmann and the maternal grandmother, widow Ritter. That fixes two further generations of this Kemnade household in a single entry, and it is the strongest evidence in these five entries that the Kemnade Waßmanns were a settled local family rather than incomers. > > Note: this father recurs at Bild 90 (1836, Nr. 13) and again at Bild 21 of the 1838–1842 volume (1842, Nr. 20), where his wife is entered under a different name. See the 1863 correction discussed in the 1838–1842 file.
