Transcript and translation

Uncertain readings are marked [?] or set in brackets; words that could not be read are marked as such. Each transcript is shown as written, with its transcriber’s notes.

The record

Landeskirchliches Archiv der Evang.-luth. Landeskirche Hannovers, Kirchenkreis Bodenwerder, Linse, Kirchenbuch 1815-1853, Bild 45 (archion.de).

Confirmed negative for the surname. No entry on this page names Wesemann, Waßemann, Wasmann or any variant, in the parents’ columns or in the godparent column on the facing leaf. The read covered both leaves and every column.

What is on this page

Written page 82 closes 1851 and opens 1852. Written page 83 carries the baptismal names, godparents and remarks for those rows. The recurring surname is Meyer. Three entries of 1852 have no godparents at all, the column reading only der Vater des Kindes — the child’s father — which is the register’s form for a private or emergency baptism performed without sponsors. The remarks column carries illegitimacy notes only: one names a father, Christian Döring of Tuchtfeld in Hannover, and a guardian, Heinrich Göbert of Linse.

German

Sohn: Heinrich Wilhelm August.

Taufzeugen: 1. Junggesell Friedrich Halbrodt aus Linse. 2. Jungfer Juliane Falken aus Linse. 3. Junggesell Wilhelm Brand aus Halle.

English

A son: Heinrich Wilhelm August.

Godparents: 1. Friedrich Halbrodt, bachelor, of Linse. 2. Juliane Falken, unmarried, of Linse. 3. Wilhelm Brand, bachelor, of Halle.

Notes

  • Friedrich Halbrodt of Linse appears here for the second time in two consecutive images, and Wilhelm Brand is entered as being of Halle rather than of Linse. Read against Bild 27, where two Brand sons are Halbmeyers Söhne at Linse in 1838, this suggests part of the Brand family had moved to the mother parish by 1851.
  • The three 1852 entries with der Vater des Kindes in place of a godparent list are worth recording as a method point. The clerk of this volume had a standing form for a baptism performed without sponsors, and he used it. He did not omit the entry.
  • Reading confidence. Halbrodt, Brand, Falken and the der Vater des Kindes formula are read with confidence.
  • One claim removed. An earlier version of this file reported a godparent entry annotated gestorben in Amerika. Both leaves and every column have now been read and no such annotation is on this page. The claim was carried forward from the previous version of the file without being checked against the scan. It should not be cited.
