Kind: (Tochter) Charlotte Dorothea Luise Henriette. Taufzeugen: 1. Hanne Caroline Christiane Ritter; 2. Hanne Sophie Luise Ohm(?); 3. English translation: 8. Father: Waßmann (underlined in the original), Friedrich Wilhelm Conrad, cottager (Brinksitzer) and linen-weaver at Kemnade. Mother: Hanne Dorothea Friederike Wilhelmine, née Ritter, thirty-four years old. Birth: the fifth of February, twelve o’clock midday. Baptism: the seventeenth of February. Child: (daughter) Charlotte Dorothea Luise Henriette. Godparents: 1. Hanne Caroline Christiane Ritter; 2. Hanne Sophie Luise Ohm(?); 3. Heinrich Friedrich Christoph Schrader; all still unmarried, born at Kemnade and still resident there.

Correction, translated: Corrections to No. 8: 1. The child is named Caroline Luise Henriette. 2. The father is not the cottager Friedrich Wilhelm Conrad Waßmann but the linen-weaver Heinrich August Wilhelm Waßmann. 3. The mother’s names are Anne Marie Caroline. Bodenwerder, 15 March(?) 1863. Berkenbusch, pastor.

> A parish that corrected itself, twenty-four years later. The 1863 note rewrites the child’s name, the father and the mother — that is, everything except the date. It transfers the entry from the Brinksitzer household recorded at Bilder 80 and 90 of the 1815–1843 volume to the Häusling household recorded at Bild 88. Both fathers are linen-weavers at Kemnade and both wives are née Ritter, which is how the clerk went wrong. > > Methodological note for Chapter 13: this register demonstrably mixes up two same-surname, same-trade households in the same village, and the parish knew it. Any Waßmann attribution from this book should be checked against the corrections column before it is relied on. > > The mother’s stated age of thirty-four is itself wrong for the named woman: née Ritter was twenty-seven in March 1834 and twenty-nine in March 1836, so she should be thirty-two here. The age belongs to the other wife, consistent with the 1863 correction.

The third crop also carries the tail of the preceding entry’s godparent list at top left: 3. Caroline Albrecht, geborene Hei[?], Ehefrau des Schuhmachermeisters Heinrich Albrecht in Kemnade.*
