English summary

Tax computation for the schoolmaster Justus Heinrich Eickhoff of Linse, Canton Halle, District Einbeck, Department of the Leine, Kingdom of Westphalia, drawn up and handed in by Eickhoff himself on 5 May 1808 and received on 8 May. He owned no arable land and no farmyard, his house standing on the street. He had one garden by the house of 24 square rods, tithe-free, in the fifth soil class, and one dwelling house of 24 feet square, used only for his own needs. No pasture and no sheep. Assessed income: 1 taler 18 groschen (18 groschen from the garden, 1 taler from the house). Annual tax: 75 centimes, or 7 groschen, after 2 supplementary centimes.

Notes

  • No Wesemann appears. The Arcinsys title (“Exemtensteuerprofessionen … der Commune Linse”) suggested a list of Linse tradesmen; the file is a single assessment of the schoolmaster. The neighbouring files 13 W Nr. 1591–1596, filmed together, are probably assessments of other formerly tax-exempt persons (clergy, schoolmasters, nobles), which a hereditary-lease miller was not. The Wesemann mill would sit in the ordinary land-tax series, not here.
  • For the guardianship question: negative. The file has nothing on the Wesemann household in 1808.
  • Eickhoff connects to an earlier correction in the Chapter 2 record: a 1799 Linse baptism in the Eickhoff family was re-read on 6 October 2026. This file fixes his forenames (Justus Heinrich) and his office at Linse in 1808.
  • The garden appears under the 3rd class on the income page (image 3) but under the 5th class in Tabelle II (image 5). The 18 groschen follows the income page; the discrepancy is in the original.
  • The ⅛ calculation on image 4 is partly overwritten; the struck figures and the reading “5 Fr. 83 C.” are uncertain. The final assessment, 75 centimes or 7 groschen, is clear.
  • Tabelle II corrects the commune from Halle to Linse; Tabelle IV leaves “Halle” uncorrected. Same household.

Conventions: text in square brackets is editorial. [?] marks an uncertain reading, [...] an illegible word, and a struck word is shown as ~~struck~~. Spelling, abbreviation and capitalization follow the original. Ditto marks are shown as “do” or [ditto] with the value they carry in brackets.
