The record

Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv, Abteilung Wolfenbüttel, VI Hs 13, Nr. 58. Stammbuch des Johann Sebastian Strack aus Idstein, 1764–1774; Eintrag 150, pag. 238; Helmstedt, 30 März 1767.

Strack's album (172 entries, 1764–1774) was compiled chiefly at Helmstedt during his law studies there from 1764. Only the one entry naming a Wesemann is transcribed below.

Entry 150 — Helmstedt, 30 March 1767

Latin / German

Ut possumus, quando volumus non licet.

Helmstadii III Cal. Aprilis MDCCLXVII.

Vir praenobilissime atque carissime. Haec pauca in perpetuam sui memoriam demandare voluit Amicus ac Frater suus observantissimus

J. L. S. Wesemannus, J. prud. Stud. Hildesiensis.

English

We do as we can, since we may not do as we wish.

Helmstedt, the 3rd day before the Kalends of April [30 March] 1767.

Most noble and dearest sir. These few words, for the perpetual memory of himself, his most devoted friend and brother wished to entrust to you —

J. L. S. Wesemann, student of law, of Hildesheim.

Notes

> The Arcinsys catalog gives the full name and origin: “Eintrag 150 (pag 238): Helmstedt 30.03.1767; Johann Ludwig Samuel Wesemann aus Hildesheim, stud. iur. 1766 in Helmstedt; Latein.” This resolves the manuscript's abbreviated “Hildesiensis” as — of Hildesheim — rather than any place nearer Linse. > > Johann Ludwig Samuel Wesemann matriculated at Helmstedt in 1766 to study law; this entry, written the following spring, is his only appearance in this album. > > No GND authority record is linked to him in the catalog index, as with the Nr. 39a entry. > > Hildesheim sits roughly 60–70 km from Linse — closer than the other two sightings, but still with no stated connection to the milling family. Chapter 10 material, not Chapter 1: a third, separate, educated Wesemann, eight years before the family's own son Georg Wilhelm Ehrenfried was born at Thran.
