Emma and the Kulschers

Emma Knoll Wesemann, the youngest, was born at Northeastern Hospital on 25 November 1923. On 16 September 1942 she married Louis Kulscher, born at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on 4 August 1917, the son of Paul Kulscher and Anna Kovacs. Their first child, a daughter, was probably born about 18 February 1943; a family album shows her on 28 September 1943 at seven months and ten days.

Emma later married Clarence C. Metzger (7 September 1918 to 16 September 1995), a military veteran, who is buried at Murray City Cemetery, Kentucky. Louis Kulscher died on 8 May 2002. Emma had settled at Murray, Calloway County, Kentucky, and died there on 5 June 2002. Her obituary, printed in the Paducah Sun and the Morning Call, names her two daughters and two stepdaughters, who are living, and her brothers George and Elmer.

Emma’s eldest daughter married Gerald Lee Bender, born at Hellertown on 19 October 1940, the son of Eugene Bender and Mae E. Ruch. He died on 5 August 1991, aged fifty, and his obituary names his wife and their two sons.

Louis Kulscher, Jr., known in the family as “Buster,” was named for his father, as Sonny was named for his. He married first Susan E. Fulmer, born at Fountain Hill on 14 July 1946 or 1947, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Helen D. (Henry) Fulmer. They had a daughter and a son. Susan died on 2 July 2015, still called “wife of Louis Kulscher” in her obituary. Louis Jr. married a second time. He died on 4 February 2025, and his obituary, published in the Express-Times of Easton on 7 February, names his parents as Louis Kulscher and Emma Wesemann Metzger, his two sisters and six grandchildren.

Emma’s youngest daughter married Larry Kichline (1945 to 25 July 2022). His obituary names his wife, their son and daughter, and three grandchildren.
