Copyright and terms of use

The Wesemann family history on this website is © 2026 Paul Wesemann. This page explains what you may reuse, how to credit it, and the terms of using the site. Last updated 6 November 2026.

What I hold copyright in

The story text, the transcriptions and translations of records, the family trees, the chronology, the guided journeys, and the selection and arrangement of all of it are my work, © 2026 Paul Wesemann.

What you may do

Except where a page says otherwise, you may copy, share, translate and adapt this work for any non-commercial purpose under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0). Family members, researchers, teachers, students and local historians are welcome to use it.

Non-commercial means not primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or money. Selling the material, putting it behind a paywall, or using it in a product or service that is sold needs my written permission first. Please ask through the contact form.

How to credit

Please name me, give the title of the page, link to it and name the license. For example: “George: Boyhood and Leaving,” from The Wesemann Family History by Paul Wesemann, family.paulwesemann.com, licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0. If you change the material, please say so.

What the license does not cover

  • The original records. Church registers, civil records, censuses, ship lists, military files, newspapers and photographs belong to the archives, libraries, publishers and families that hold them. The references on each page name them. Ask the holder before reproducing a record.
  • Material by others. Short quotations from published books, articles and websites are used for comment and research and remain the property of their authors. They are not licensed here.
  • Facts and dates. Facts are not anyone’s property, and you are free to use them, though a credit is appreciated.
  • Names and logos of archives, libraries and other organizations.

Accuracy

The family history is careful research, and every page names its sources, but it may contain mistakes, and some conclusions are marked as probable or possible rather than proven. Transcriptions of old handwriting can include uncertain readings, marked with a question mark or brackets. Please check the original records before relying on anything here, and tell me about any mistake you find.

Using this site

The site is provided free of charge and “as is”, without any promise that it is complete, accurate or always available. To the extent the law allows, I am not responsible for any loss that comes from using it or relying on it. Links to other websites are given for reference; I do not control those sites and am not responsible for their content.

You are welcome to read, link to and share pages, and search engines and other automated tools may visit the site. Please do not try to disrupt the site, get around its security, or use the contact form to send unsolicited advertising.

Copyright concerns

If you believe something on this site uses your work without permission, please write to me through the contact form with the page address, a description of your work, and how you would like the matter resolved. I will look into it and remove the material promptly if your concern is right.

Changes

I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version.
